For more than 30 years falling film evaporators have been used in the sugar industry. WIEDEMANN has contributed a lot to the design and development of falling film evaporators. In addition to tubular evaporators, WIEDEMANN also offers plate evaporators of all sizes.

Falling film evaporator with adjacent centrifugal separator:
With this design very good vapour purities are achieved; moreover, the access to the juice distribution in the upper part of the evaporator is easy. However, more space is required.
Falling film evaporator with external rising vapour ducts and additional centrifugal juice separator in the upper part:
With this design the centrifugal separator is installed at the upper evaporator part. Consequently, less space is required and a very good vapour purity is achieved. However, the access to the juice distribution is complicated.
Falling film evaporator with annular chamber juice separation in the base:
This design is a good combination of small space requirement, good vapour purity and easy access to the juice distribution at the same time. The annular chamber separator works as gravity separator.
Juice distribution in the evaporator:
The safe and even distribution of the juice on the tube bottom is a decisive factor for a trouble-free operation of the evaporator. Many disturbances during operation of a falling film evaporator are due to a wrong juice distribution.
For pure sugar solutions (invert sugar solutions, dextrose solutions) a simple perforated bowl is sufficient.
For sugar solutions coming from the juice purification a special distribution with larger hole cross-sections is necessary. For many years, the well-known tubular distribution has proven to be very reliable.
